About
Horie has become known as a stylish neighbourhood. It was once a town of timber merchants: the Horie River ran along today's border between Kita-Horie and Minami-Horie, busy with boats carrying timber. The area burned in the air raids of 1945, and people returning afterwards built Tachibana-dori, known as a street of furniture shops. In recent years clothing shops, general stores and cafes have opened one after another, and the area now draws crowds.
