About

According to the shrine's own account of its origins, in Tempyo-Shoho 1 (749), in the reign of Empress Koken, the deity of Tamukeyama Hachimangu in Nara was invited from Usa Jingu in Oita to guard Todaiji, and the palanquin carrying it from Usa came ashore here and rested for a time, after which the place was renamed Mitsu Hachimangu. The shrine therefore has a very long history. Its deities are Emperor Ojin, Emperor Chuai and Hime Okami, that is Empress Jingu. Its seasonal events, at New Year, at Setsubun, in cherry blossom season and at the summer and autumn festivals, draw many worshippers.
