Nakanoshima

Nakanoshima is a green, waterside area where government, business and cultural institutions are concentrated. On the map it is a narrow island between the Dojima and Tosabori rivers, about 3 km east to west and about 50 hectares, home to a convention centre, international cultural facilities, offices and shops. In the Edo period, when Osaka was called the nation's kitchen, the domains' warehouse residences stood here and rice and other goods were traded. In the Meiji era a library and the Central Public Hall were built, and the island became a centre of modern information and culture as well as trade.
