About

A shopping street running about 800 m east to west from Matsuyamachi-suji through Tanimachi-suji to Uemachi-suji. It was busy from the Meiji era until the war, came through the air raids with little damage, recovered early after the war, and was the first in the city to hold a prize-draw sale. Row houses and alleys from the early Showa era remain around it, and its gentle slopes make it a good street to wander. Local architects have turned row houses nearby into shops and cafes.
