Tsuruhashi Shopping Street

Tsuruhashi Shopping Street began when shops gathered of their own accord in what was called the black market era, as people got through the confusion after the end of the war, and in Showa 22 the Tsuruhashi International Shop League was formed as a voluntary association. Well placed, with many transport lines meeting here, it has grown into a shopping street with a strong international character and a human warmth that ordinary people are fond of. The smell of grilled meat from the shopping street can be caught even from the station platforms, and the liveliness around Tsuruhashi Station has been chosen for the Ministry of the Environment's 100 Best Scented Landscapes. Tsuruhashi Shopping Street was selected for the Osaka Machinami Hyakkei, the hundred views of Osaka townscapes, in fiscal Heisei 18 on the basis of a vote by residents of the prefecture.
