About
The Takatani Family House is registered as a national registered tangible cultural property and as a city registered cultural property (building). It was built around Taisho 13 (1924), drawing on the lesson of the Great Kanto Earthquake. Earthquake and fire resistance were strongly in mind: it has a steel frame and exterior walls of brick and concrete block, a solid structure. A weathervane cockerel sits at the peak of the gabled roof, and two dormer windows and a chimney give it the air of a fairy tale.
