Tezukayama Kofun

One of four burial mounds left in the city, a keyhole-shaped tomb of about the fifth century said to keep almost its original form. It is a historic site designated by the state. Who was buried there is unknown, though one view holds it to be the grave of Otomo no Kanamura, a powerful noble whose residence stood nearby. Because poem 1740 in volume 9 of the Man'yoshu tells of Urashima of Mizunoe, local tradition takes it for the grave of Urashima Taro. On the mound grow butterbur, bracken, royal fern and wild yam, along with a colony of the uncommon Kansai dandelion.
