Sennichimae Doguyasuji Shopping street

Sennichimae Doguyasuji is a shopping street lined with specialist shops that between them carry every cooking and kitchen tool there is. Osaka is called the nation's kitchen, a city where a great many chefs who have trained their skill and their spirit work, and the shops on Doguyasuji stock tools to suit the way those professionals use them. It started in Meiji 15 (1882), when secondhand tool shops and general goods dealers lined the approach that ran from Sennichimae by Hozenji to the Daishi hall at Shitennoji and to Imamiya Ebisu Shrine. In the Taisho era it developed by degrees into a street of wholesalers and manufacturers' specialist shops, and after the war, in Showa 45 (1970), an arcade was put up, giving the 150 m street of today. On October 9, Tool Day, the Doguyasuji Festival is held, with a lottery drawing. The Shinshun Dogu Ichi, a New Year tool market timed to Ebessan at Imamiya Ebisu on January 10, is another fixture. Making food samples and glass etching can be tried as well. Restaurants have grown in number too, and it is a street to buy in, look around and eat in.
