Yodogawa Shrine

The date of founding is not known in detail. Fifteen deities are enshrined, among them Amaterasu Masu Sume Omikami and Hachiman Okami, gods of renown from across the country. The parishioners included Yosa Buson, famous for his haiku. He knew the shrine's rites and festivals from childhood and looked forward to the festivals more than anything, and his sensibility is thought to have been sharpened in that setting. The summer festival in July is called a seasonal feature of Miyakojima Ward, with flutes, gongs and drums, a cheerful procession of children, makura-daiko drums and danjiri floats.
