Buson Park

Yosa Buson was born in Kema village in Osaka, now Kema-cho in Miyakojima-ku, Osaka City, in Kyoho 1 (1716). With Matsuo Basho and Kobayashi Issa he counts as one of the masters of Edo-period haikai, and with Ike no Taiga and Maruyama Okyo as one of the originators of haiga, painting in the haiku manner. Osaka City laid out Buson Park in 2009 in Kema-cho, where he was born. The park holds 13 stone monuments carved with his verses, among them “Rape blossoms: the moon in the east, the sun in the west.”
