Yodogawa Bridge

In March of Showa 4 the Yodogawa railway bridge on the Joto freight line opened. It was run as a single track at first, and on the upstream side of the track a wooden temporary bridge, the Akagawa Karibashi, was provided for pedestrians and bicycles. The digging of the Shin-Yodogawa in the Meiji era had left the residents of the two banks 600 m apart, and the bridge became part of their daily life, known and loved locally as the Akagawa Tekkyo, the Akagawa iron bridge.
