Shirokita Park

Shirokita Park opened in Showa 9 (1934) on land along the Yodogawa riverbed and has been there a long time. The grounds cover 9.5 hectares, and the cherry blossoms in April and the Shirokita Chrysanthemum Exhibition held around November each year are familiar markers of the Osaka year. The iris garden grows about 250 varieties and 13,000 plants of Japanese iris in the Edo, Ise and Higo lineages, and the way they bloom in blue-purple, white and yellow at their peak in May and June has been chosen as one of the Osaka Midori no Hyakusen, the hundred selected green places of Osaka. Just below the embankment of the Yodogawa spread wando, pond-like stretches of water along the river enclosed by groynes and other works, where unusual plants and animals gather.
