Toyosato Bridge

Toyosato Bridge was completed in Showa 45 (1970) as a project connected with the World Exposition. Of its 561 m length, the 377 m over the low water channel in the middle of the river takes the form of a cable-stayed bridge. The A-shaped tower standing 45 m above the water, and the cables running diagonally from it to hold up the main girder, are what the bridge is known for in appearance. With its completion the Hirata ferry, which had 300 years of history and was the last ferry crossing on the Yodogawa, disappeared. Besides linking to the Meishin Expressway, it works as a main traffic artery tying the industrial districts of northern and eastern Osaka and the Nanko area together, and its balanced appearance also improves the cityscape. It has been lit up at night since Showa 58 (1983), which has made its role as a landmark larger still.
