Tenjinzaka

A slope that forms the boundary between Reinincho and Osaka 1-chome in Tennoji-ku, and one of the Tennoji Nanazaka. It takes its name from leading up to Yasui Shrine, where Sugawara no Michizane is enshrined. Near the foot of the slope the construction bureau of Osaka City has built a stone conduit, a reminder that the area has long had good spring water. In the grounds of Yasui Shrine remains the site of a well called Kanshizume no I, itself one of the seven famous waters: the springs of Masui, Osaka, Tamade, Yasui, Arisu or Tosa, Kinryu and Kamei. In Engi 23 (901), when Michizane was sent down to Dazaifu, he is said to have stopped here on his way to visit his aunt in Kawachi and drunk the water of the well.
