Shogonjodo-ji Temple

One of the three great temples of Sumiyoshi, belonging to the Shingon Risshu school, with Fudo Myoo as its principal image. Its founding is put at around the Tengyo era (930 to 946). It was rebuilt in Otoku 1 (1084) as a temple of imperial prayer for Emperor Shirakawa, and was given its name then. It was once as splendid as Shitennoji, but suffered fires of war and other damage on the way to the present. The hall standing now was rebuilt in Tenna 2 (1682). The standing Fudo Myoo and the seated Aizen Myoo are tangible cultural properties of Osaka Prefecture, and the precinct is designated a prefectural historic site.
