空堀商店街

A shopping street about 800 m long running east and west from Matsuyamachi-suji through Tanimachi-suji to Uemachi-suji. It now carries the unusual catchphrase Haikarahori. It was busy from the Meiji period to before the war, and because it suffered little in the air raids it recovered quickly afterwards and made a name with the first prize-draw sale in the city. Buildings and alleys from the early Showa period, row houses among them, remain nearby, and walking the gentle slope back and forth is a pleasure. In recent years local architects have opened one shop and cafe after another in converted row houses, and more young people have been coming.
