今橋

A historic bridge over the Higashi-Yokobori River. Its name appears in the picture maps of the siege of Osaka and elsewhere, so it is held to have existed from the Toyotomi period. From the middle of the Edo period money changers stood side by side near its west end and the quarter prospered as the centre of finance. A new bridge was built then on the line of Kyobashi-cho, which is said to be why it was called Ima-bashi. It was 75.8 m long and 5.5 m wide, large for a town bridge, and ferries to Amagasaki left from its foot. It burned down again and again in fires; after being rebuilt in the Meiji period with wooden girders on iron piles, it became in Taisho 13 (1924) a fine bridge 70.4 m long and 8.4 m wide, a three-span Gerber steel plate girder with cast iron used for the lamps and the railings, though the cast iron seems to have been surrendered during the war. The present bridge was rebuilt in Heisei 6, and its lamps and railings were designed after the old ones.
