About

A temple of the Jodo Shinshu Honganji school. In Tensho 19 (1591) followers built a lodging here to keep the light of the nenbutsu burning in Osaka. In Keicho 2 (1597) it moved to its present site, then called Tsumura-go, and came to be known as Kita-Mido, the north hall. Along with Minami-Mido, the south hall (Namba Betsu-in), it has long been close to the people of Osaka. It burned down completely in the Osaka air raids of 1945 and was rebuilt in 1964 as a modern hall, which is what stands today. The street that links the two Mido came to be called Midosuji after them.
