Namba Betsu-in Temple

Founded in Bunroku 5 (1596) as Otani Honganji at Watanabe in Osaka, and moved to its present site in Keicho 3 (1598) when Osaka Castle was enlarged. It later became Namba Betsu-in, and is called Minami-Mido, the south hall, alongside Tsumura Betsu-in, which is called Kita-Mido, the north hall. The main hall burned in the Osaka air raids during the war and was rebuilt in 1961 with a double roof. The rafters under the eaves are left out, a plain treatment that makes use of what concrete construction allows. It is a registered cultural property.
