Former Konishi Family Residence

The former Konishi family residence, now an archive museum, remains on Doshomachi, the street of medicine wholesalers, and is a Japanese-style building that sums up the machiya townhouse of modern Osaka. Konishi Gisuke Shoten, founded in 1870 as a dealer in medicinal goods and now Konishi Co., Ltd., began work on it in 1900 and completed it three years later, in 1903. Good timber was used, and although the house is plain, careful design and small inventions can be seen in the individual rooms and the tea room. The kitchen holds a large stove that once cooked for about fifty family members and employees. It was refitted as an archive museum in 2020, the hundred and fiftieth year since the firm was founded. Visits are by reservation.
