Yamamoto Noh Theater

The oldest noh theatre in Osaka. The first stage, built in Showa 2 (1927), burned down in the war; it was rebuilt in Showa 25 (1950), and in Heisei 18 (2006) the Council for Cultural Affairs listed it as a National Registered Cultural Property. Although the building is historic, the theatre works to spread noh as an art alive in the present, with performances for newcomers, introductions to noh for children through art, hands-on courses for beginners, and audience-participation pieces such as 200 People's Hagoromo. Making use of its position near a station, it took part early in the Osaka Night Culture project, and programmes such as Kamigata Traditional Performing Arts Night for Beginners and Tokui-noh have made it a new sight where the Osaka evening can be spent on something cultural.
