The main building went up in 1931 as the headquarters of the army's Fourth Division, at the same time as the Osaka Castle keep, and for a long time afterwards it was the Osaka Municipal Museum. Sixteen years after the museum closed it was renewed and reopened as shops, cafes, restaurants and a museum, standing directly in front of the keep. The roof terrace, BLUE BIRDS ROOF TOP TERRACE, serves barbecue and tapas with the keep close at hand, and in the basement the Kaiyodo Figure Museum Miraiza Osaka-jo keeps a permanent display of more than 3,000 figures, from palm-sized pieces to life-size ones.
