Nyoganji

Nyoganji was founded in the first year of Emperor Sushun (588) by Prince Shotoku as Kiredera, was later rebuilt by Kobo Daishi, and was renamed Nyoganji in Konin 8 (817). Its painted wooden standing statue of Sho Kannon is a Heian-period work designated a cultural property by the prefecture, and the temple also holds a Nara-period dry-lacquer statue of Benzaiten and a Heian-period wooden Jizo. A stone monument, the Kangai Choko Kiko no Hi, stands quietly in the precincts.
