Hakusan Shrine

Hakusan Shrine enshrines Kukurihime no Kami. The date of its founding is unknown, but until 1872 it was called Hakusan Gongen. From around the Oei era (1394) it was the tutelary shrine of the villages of Nakahama, Shigino and Mori. The buildings burned down in 1576, when Oda Nobunaga attacked Ishiyama Honganji, and were rebuilt by Toyotomi Hideyori in 1603. They burned again in 1614 in the fires of the Winter Siege of Osaka. Rebuilt in 1617, the shrine has been altered and repaired several times since.
