The Dai-ichi Life building in front of Osaka Station was planned with twelve floors, 41 m to the eaves, but that needed a special permit under the building law of the time, so it was begun as a nine-floor building and finished after a fashion in Showa 27. The permit came soon afterwards and the twelve-floor building was completed in Showa 28, which made it the first tall building allowed as an exception to the 31 m limit of the day. It was rebuilt in Heisei 2, and the present Osaka Dai-ichi Life Building has nineteen floors, with an open space on the east of the site, standing almost directly opposite Osaka Station.
