大阪市中央卸売市場本場

The Osaka Municipal Central Wholesale Market was sited at Shimo-Fukushima for its water and land transport, but the ground chosen was crowded with houses, a school, a copper-rolling works and warehouses, and the negotiations were hard going, with opposition from residents and questions of compensation. The market opened in Showa 6 on a site of 12 ha, and in scale and equipment it was the first in the East. It suffered considerable damage in the war, but its facilities were strengthened and extended afterwards. From Heisei 2 a rebuilding programme began with the administration block, and three stages of work were completed in October of Heisei 14, which changed the market greatly.
