Yamatobashi Bridge

Yamatobashi Bridge links the cities of Osaka and Sakai. It was built in Hoei 1 (1704), together with the cutting of the Yamato River, where the Kishu Kaido crosses the river, and it was a kogibashi, a bridge built and maintained by the shogunate; at the time it was the only bridge on the Yamato River. Yamatobashi was repaired again and again after every flood, and because it was badly damaged by the great flood of Meiji 18 it was rebuilt as an iron bridge for the first time, by Osaka Prefecture, in Taisho 5. The present bridge was rebuilt in Showa 49 (1974) and is a cable-stayed bridge 192.00 m long and 9.50 m wide.
