About

The Shin-Kabukiza moved to Osaka Uehommachi in September 2010 from Namba, where it had been a familiar sight for more than fifty years since opening in 1958, with an exterior modeled on Momoyama-style karahafu gables. It seats about 1,500 in a wide, shallow three-tier structure that carries on what marked the Namba Shin-Kabukiza: a short distance between performers and audience and a strong sense of being in the room. The program ranges from special runs of plays and shows with a top star as the lead, to musicals and concerts. Uehommachi YUFURA, the building the theater is in, has restaurants and cafes that can be used before and after a performance or during the interval.
