Shari-Sonsho-ji Temple

The temple's full name is Nangakuzan Shari-Sonshoji. Its present principal image is Sho-Kanzeon Bosatsu. About 1,400 years ago, in the reign of Emperor Yomei, a wealthy man known as the Ikuno Choja had a child who could not speak. The man appealed to Prince Shotoku, who had come to the area to build the halls of Shitennoji, and the prince turned to the child and said, return to me the three relics of the Buddha I entrusted to you in a former life. The child spat out three relics and could speak normally from then on. The prince gave one relic to Horyuji, one to Shitennoji and the last to the rich man, who built a hall and enshrined it there. That is said to be the origin of Shariji.
