Gengahashi Onsen

Gengahashi Onsen was built around Showa 10 (1935) and is a nationally registered tangible cultural property. The plan is divided into a men's side and a women's side on either side of the bandai, the attendant's booth; the bath area has been renovated from time to time, but the structure of the changing room and the bathing room survives well. The roof is laid with brown pantiles, and there is a Statue of Liberty figure, a play on nyuyoku, meaning bathing, and New York. The front of the second floor has Western-style windows with carving, and round windows. It is a good example of a wooden public bathhouse in a built-up area and is widely used. Under the criteria for registered tangible cultural properties it counts as a building that contributes to the historic landscape of the country.
