Sakuranomiya Bridge

Sakuranomiya Bridge, completed in September of Showa 5, was built under the First Urban Planning Project. It is 188 m long and was the largest arch bridge in Japan before the war. The architect Takeda Goichi advised on the design. Because it was painted silver it is called Ginbashi, the silver bridge, and it makes a fine sight as one with the scenery of the Okawa and Sakuranomiya Park. Later, in Heisei 19, the New Sakuranomiya Bridge was built on the upstream side when the road was widened. Designed by the architect Ando Tadao, the new bridge is longer than the old one but was designed to match its height.
