千林商店街

A shopping street in Asahi-ku, Osaka, running about 700 m between Senbayashi station on the Keihan line and Senbayashi-Omiya station on the Tanimachi subway line. After the war the first Daiei shop, Shufu no Mise Daiei, opened here, and the street was called the cheapest shopping street in Japan. The old downtown feeling remains, and the street's own theme song, sung by the Duke Aces, plays under the arcade all day long. Because it escaped the war damage, about two hundred shops still stand in the prewar row-house form along the street, selling fresh food, groceries, household goods and meals. Senbayashi Kurashi Yell Kan, formed when the public market and the city market merged, is here too, and shoppers fill the street from morning to evening.
