About

The Osaka Castle that Toyotomi Hideyoshi built lies buried underground. The castle standing today was rebuilt by the Tokugawa shogunate, and its stone walls and its old structures, the turrets and gates, date from the Edo period. In 1931 a keep with the outward appearance of the Toyotomi period was raised on the Tokugawa era keep base, and after the Heisei restoration work it became a symbol of Osaka, more handsome and more solid than before. Cherry trees, a plum grove and other seasonal plants flower here, many people come, and the park is still a place of rest for the people of Osaka.
