八軒家浜船着場

The Hachikenyahama landing, once at the Nagataya Konbu main shop, is said to take its name from the eight boat inns that stood here. In the Edo period it was the busy land base for the pilgrimage to Kumano. It is where Yaji and Kita of Jippensha Ikku's Tokaidochu Hizakurige appear, and where Mori no Ishimatsu of the rokyoku Ishimatsu Sanjikkoku-bune first set foot in Osaka. Osaka and Kyoto are about thirty minutes apart by train today; in the Edo period the boat took about six hours from Kyoto down to Osaka and about twelve hours from Osaka up to Kyoto against the current. The landing has been brought back as a quiet harbour for cruising and a place for people to rest.
