Climb the steps of exit 3 at Ebisucho station on the Osaka Metro Sakaisuji line and Tsutenkaku, the tower that rises into the sky, is there to meet you. The 200 m or so from the exit to Tsutenkaku is the main street to the tower, Tsutenkaku Hondori. It prospered as Ebisu-dori from the founding of Shinsekai in 1912, and took the name Tsutenkaku Hondori when the second Tsutenkaku was rebuilt in 1956. It is a varied shopping street, chiefly of places to eat as befits Osaka the city of food, with shops as well, and people of every age fill it. The view of Tsutenkaku from Tsutenkaku Hondori is the best in Shinsekai, and the night view is fine too. Old established shops and new ones stand side by side, and the old good Osaka feeling is still here.
