About

Kaiyukan is an aquarium that faithfully reproduces the natural environment of the Pacific, the world's largest ocean, and the seas around it. Regions of the Pacific Ring of Fire have been selected and recreated in large tanks, and the tanks inside the building are arranged so that each corresponds to its real geographical position in the Pacific. About 620 species and 30,000 creatures are kept and shown, starting with the Pacific Ocean tank at the centre of the building where whale sharks swim, the Japan Forest tank with a waterfall and thick vegetation, and the Tasman Sea tank where Pacific white-sided dolphins live. The Jellyfish Galaxy, devoted to the appeal of jellyfish, and the Arctic tank, home to ringed seals, are also popular.
