Kotai Jingu Shrine

Kotai Jingu enshrines Amaterasu Omikami and is a shrine of long standing, widely revered and called Jingu-sama, which has prospered over the years. The present shrine building was repaired in Kyoho 2, Tenpo 13 (1842) and Meiji 13 (1880), and rebuilt in Showa 7 (1932) to a design by Furukawa Shigeharu, who worked on the design of Osaka Castle. It is an elegant nagare-zukuri building in the Momoyama style. It is said to have begun when Imafuku village in Settsu Province was developed at the end of the Heian period and Amaterasu Omikami was enshrined there.
