The first bridge was built in the Edo period by the Yodoya, then the foremost timber merchants in Japan, and was about 65 m long and about 4 m wide. The bridge is named after them. The Yodoya family is said to have contributed a great deal to the formation of the Dojima rice market, the Tenma vegetable market and the Zakoba fish market, but in Hoei 2 (1705) they were suddenly subjected to kessho, the confiscation of their property, and the house came to an end. The bridge of that time was washed away in the great flood of Meiji 18 (1885). The present bridge was completed in Showa 10 (1935), after a prize competition for the design was held as part of the First Urban Planning Project that began in Taisho 11 (1922). For its very fine design and its harmony with the surroundings, it was named the bridge that citizens find most attractive in a survey on bridges carried out by the city of Osaka.",

It began as a school of medicine, but the students, full of ambition, took an interest in the latest knowledge arriving by way of the Netherlands and read every kind of book, so it grew into a school of rangaku, Dutch studies. The lamp in the room that held the Doeff dictionary, used for translating Dutch, is said never to have gone out. The present building was designated an Important Cultural Property by the state in Showa 39 (1964), the ground around it is laid out as a historic park, and the interior has been restored to how it was when Koan lived there. The building itself is valuable as an example of a Kitahama townhouse, and it is open to the public. Before the Western-style house was built the roof was of wood and the walls only clad in copper, so Matashiro, uneasy about fire, rebuilt in reinforced concrete, which resists earthquake and fire better. It was meant for the family's own use, but as there was room to spare, and Matashiro had an interest in education, it was used as a school for brides, the Shiransha Kaseigakuen. From 1929 until the school closed in 1943 about 3,000 young women, graduates of prestigious Kansai girls' schools, daughters of good families known in Osaka as itosan, finished their studies there, and the school is called a forerunner of the women's junior college. The rooftop terrace now holds events from time to time, and restaurants and shops have taken space in the building.",

Its name appears in the picture maps of the siege of Osaka and elsewhere, so it is held to have existed from the Toyotomi period. From the middle of the Edo period money changers stood side by side near its west end and the quarter prospered as the centre of finance. A new bridge was built then on the line of Kyobashi-cho, which is said to be why it was called Ima-bashi. It was 75.8 m long and 5.5 m wide, large for a town bridge, and ferries to Amagasaki left from its foot. It burned down again and again in fires; after being rebuilt in the Meiji period with wooden girders on iron piles, it became in Taisho 13 (1924) a fine bridge 70.4 m long and 8.4 m wide, a three-span Gerber steel plate girder with cast iron used for the lamps and the railings, though the cast iron seems to have been surrendered during the war. The present bridge was rebuilt in Heisei 6, and its lamps and railings were designed after the old ones.",

Designed by Tatsuno Kingo in brick and stone, it is marked by the dome over the centre. The building was later kept rather than replaced, and in Showa 57 (1982) a six-storey annex and the preservation and repair of the old building were completed. Yodoyabashi, the bridge in front of it, was swept away by the great Yodogawa flood of Meiji 18 (1885) and rebuilt the following year, nine metres wide, with iron piers and wooden girders, at which point it was aligned in a straight line with Oebashi. It was widened and rebuilt in iron in Meiji 44 (1911) for the city tram, and when Midosuji opened it was replaced in Showa 10 (1935), through a public design competition, by a granite-faced steel-reinforced concrete arch bridge 36.4 metres wide. With the Bank of Japan it forms a solid piece of townscape and a symbol of Nakanoshima. Both the Bank of Japan building and Yodoyabashi are designated Important Cultural Properties.",

It was originally one of the five Dojima River bridges, Oebashi, Watanabebashi, Taminobashi, Horiebashi and Funatsubashi, newly built in the Genroku era (1688 to 1703) as the Dojima urban area was developed. The name is said to come from a place name that appears in the poems of Man'yoshu poets. In Meiji 43 (1910) it was rebuilt as an iron bridge to coincide with the opening of the city tram. The present bridge was renovated under the First Urban Planning Project together with Yodoyabashi to the south, and unusually for a bridge renovation of the Taisho era a design competition was held, with entries from all over the country. Otani Tatsuo was chosen to take charge of the design. The bridge is 81.5 m long and 37.0 m wide, a four span arch bridge of steel reinforced concrete with a solid web deck carrying the road on top, and it had handrails. Work began in Showa 5 (1930) and it was completed in Showa 10 (1935). It has been renovated twice since, but is said to keep almost the form it had at completion. The firm began in Enpo 6 (1678), when the first Tanabeya Gohee opened a shop at the south end of Tanabeyabashi, now Joanbashi, in Tosabori in Osaka, making and selling the compounded medicine Tanabeya furidashi-gusuri; it has worked on medicines for more than three hundred years since. The museum gathers in one place the records of that work and of the frontier spirit that carried the company through its difficulties.",

"description_en": "Sendannoki Bridge is thought to have been built in the early Edo period so that people could cross the Tosabori River to the kurayashiki on Nakanoshima. The name is said to come from a large sendan tree that stood on the street leading to it. It stayed a wooden bridge until Meiji 18 (1885), when a great flood washed it away. Because it was then decided to build the Osaka Library, now the Nakanoshima Library, and Osaka City Hall nearby, the bridge was put up again in Taisho 3 (1914), and it was rebuilt once more in Showa 10 (1935). The present bridge dates from Showa 60 (1985). It keeps the image of the old bridge, while the bridge surface and other details were designed with an emphasis on harmony with the historic buildings behind it, such as the Nakanoshima Library and the Central Public Hall. At the bridgehead there are a monument that tells of the name, main posts from the Taisho era, the nameplate of the previous bridge and a relief of a sendan tree.",

The site was originally a round inlet thick with reeds, called Tsubura-e, and the shrine began as the Tsubura shrine built there to the tutelary deity; the place name Tsumura is said to be a corruption of Tsubura-e. In Bunroku 3 (1594) Hideyoshi merged the small shrines Inui Hachimangu and Genshoreisha into it, and from then on it took the name Goryo Shrine. Standing in the commercial and financial heart of the city, it was often visited by the merchants of Semba and by students of the Tekijuku and Kaitokudo academies. ,
"description_en": "Suishobashi was built in Showa 4 (1929) as a movable weir on the Dojima River, for the purpose of cleaning the river. By Showa 57 (1982), more than 50 years after it was built, dirt and damage had become noticeable, so it was refurbished and given a look worthy of the name Suishobashi, crystal bridge. The main arch combined with the nine small arches above it gives a sense of lightness within its solidity, and planting and benches on the bridge make it an unhurried space. Along the river stand groups of modern buildings that represent Osaka, such as Osaka City Central Public Hall and the prefectural Nakanoshima Library, so it is a good place for a walk. There are various explanations of the name: that the lights on the bridge reflected in the water look like the sparkle of crystal, or that it expresses a wish for the prosperity of Osaka as a city of water. By day many people can be seen drawing the bridge, and at night it is beautifully lit.",
