The 200 m or so from the exit to Tsutenkaku is the main street to the tower, Tsutenkaku Hondori. It prospered as Ebisu-dori from the founding of Shinsekai in 1912, and took the name Tsutenkaku Hondori when the second Tsutenkaku was rebuilt in 1956. It is a varied shopping street, chiefly of places to eat as befits Osaka the city of food, with shops as well, and people of every age fill it. The view of Tsutenkaku from Tsutenkaku Hondori is the best in Shinsekai, and the night view is fine too. "description_en": "Imamiya Ebisu Shrine is worshipped as 'Ebessan', the god of commerce in Osaka. It is said to have begun when Prince Shotoku built Shitennoji in the reign of Empress Suiko and enshrined the deity as guardian of the land west of the temple. The deities are Amaterasu Sume Okami, Kotoshironushi no Mikoto (Ebisu) and three other gods. Ebisu was originally a protector of fishing: in ancient times this area lay along the shore, where a market was held to barter the produce of the sea, the villages and the fields, and Ebisu was enshrined as the guardian of that market as well. Later he came to be strongly worshipped as a god who grants good fortune and as a god prayed to for prosperity in trade. In the Edo period the Toka Ebisu festival came to be held over the three days of 9, 10 and 11 January, with offerings of hoekago palanquins. Toka Ebisu is the first festival of the year, and worshippers come for the fukusasa, a lucky bamboo branch tied with small treasures and the charms called kiccho given out by the shrine.",

Its grounds of about 11 hectares keep roughly 170 species and 1,000 animals, and it is busy with visitors as an oasis in the city centre. The displays are ecological ones that reproduce the landscape of an animal's habitat as far as possible and show how it lives there: Penguin Park and Sea Lion Wharf, the reptile house IFAR, and the African Savanna Zone, home to hippos, giraffes and lions. The zoo also holds events, among them feeding and snack times when the animals can be seen eating, guinea pig observation time with a talk by the keeper in charge (first come, recommended for lower primary school age and up), a Night ZOO held for a limited period when animals can be seen as they are after dark, and events that follow the seasons.",

Known simply as Den Den Town, it grew up long ago as an electronics quarter, and now holds a concentration of shops selling manga, anime, games, figures, trading cards and other otaku goods, forming the largest electronics and otaku quarter in western Japan. The Nipponbashi Street Festa, held around Den Den Town since 2005, has made its name as one of the largest cosplay events in the country, drawing cosplayers from all over Japan, and word of it reaches far beyond Japan as well. People also come looking for things to make, such as plastic models and electronics kits, and for high-end goods of the kind represented by audio and home theatre equipment, so the district is growing as a town of the newest hobbies. What Den Den Town offers above all is the depth of its specialisation. Professional shops with wide stock and deep knowledge across many fields are gathered here, some items can be found nowhere else, and many shops deal in secondhand goods and junk parts, so the street has many repeat customers and fans who enjoy hunting for treasures and bargains.",

In 901, when Michizane was exiled to Dazaifu, he stopped and rested here, yasui, on his way to visit his aunt, the nun Kakujuni, at Domyoji in Kawachi. Villagers who felt for him offered him okoshi, a sweet of puffed grain, and in return he gave them the Sugawara family crest, the umebachi plum. That is said to be the origin of the plum crest used as the trademark of awa-okoshi, an Osaka speciality. Yasui Tenjinsha itself was built by villagers in 942, after Michizane's death, to enshrine his spirit. Monks of Shitennoji sometimes held their ge-ango here, the rainy-season retreat in which they stayed inside the temple and devoted themselves to practice, and the name yasui, rest, is said to have become ango, written with those characters. In 1726 Shimomura Hikoemon, founder of the Daimaru stores, lamented how badly the buildings had decayed and repaired them. Successive heads of Daimaru held the shrine in deep faith, which is why it is known as Daimaru Tenjin. The precincts hold the Kanshizume no I, the well that calms convulsions, one of the seven famous waters of Tennoji, which Michizane is said to have drunk from, and a bronze memorial statue of Sanada Yukimura, killed by Tokugawa forces in the Summer Siege of Osaka.",
