It stood about 75 m, the tallest in the East at the time, and the name means a tall building that reaches the heavens. The first tower was damaged by fire in January 1943 and taken down, and a second Tsutenkaku was rebuilt in 1956 after a campaign by local residents. The second tower is 108 m tall including the lightning rod, and its designer was Naito Tachu, who also worked on Tokyo Tower and other buildings of the same period.
