It is a museum of the home, where the changes in Osaka's streets and dwellings from the Edo period through Meiji, Taisho and Showa can be experienced. Its centrepiece is a street of Osaka in the Tempo years (1830 to 1844), late in the Edo period, reconstructed from detailed research, with a device that changes the look of the town according to the hour. The themed decorations are changed with the seasons. Classical performing arts of the Kamigata region are staged in the tatami room, and there are events and workshops.
